“Prayer does change things, all kinds of things. But the most important thing it changes is us.” R.C. Sproul
I have discovered one of the greatest benefits of prayer is the relationship that I have built with God. I have come to know that it does not matter whether I am on my knees, in worship, walking or driving; what is important is that I am communicating and listening to Him. He is my best friend and prayer is how I talk to Him.
I have learned He is always with us, He hasn’t left us, and He wants to take care of us. God is working everything for the good of those who love Him because He cares for us. (Romans 8:28, 1 Peter 5:7). He asks us to be devoted to prayer, (Colossians 4:2) and to obey Him, because He has blessings that are in store for us.
Blessings from Prayer
- Prayer Changes Us – As we seek God and spend time in His word, we become transformed. His desires become our desires and our thinking is more more closely aligned with His thoughts. (James 5:6)
- God Answers Our Petitions – He promises to listen and respond to our prayers, and He assures us that He will take action when our request are in accordance with His will and timing. (1 John 5:14-15)
- God Works Through our Prayers – He has chosen prayer to be one of the ways though which He accomplishes His will on earth and in the believers’ life. (John 14:12-14)
- Prayer Delivers us from the Power of Darkness – God uses our prayers to battle the powers of darkness. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12); so, when we pray, we are fighting a spiritual battle and asking God to act. We have victory in God’s will and stand firmly against the devil’s schemes as we perservere in prayer and trust God regardless of the outcome He knows best. (Ephesians 6:10-20)
God knows our need and can meet our desires when we fully depend on Him. When we began to see the blessings in a relationship with God, our relationship grows through prayer, we recognize His character better and understand what to ask for. Our prayers become more effective.
I challenge you to keep spending time with God and see the Blessings of Prayer!
